Boredom Is Your Friend
on the benefits of boredom

I’ve had a hard time finding any inspiration since my mom passed away.
I’ve tried to take it easy, played an insane amount of time World of Warcraft, hoping that it would help me release the pressure to not have any inspiration and soothe my sadness.
After several months of this diet I came to the conclusion that it was doing the opposite: instead of freeing my mind it was entirely occupying it, leaving no room for my imagination to wander freely, the prerequisite to any kind of inspiration.
So i deleted my game (goodbye my dear paladin) and entered boredom: the brain's Palace. In this lonely place, my brain slowly relearned to let go of its duties, and in the comfort of laziness, slowly the ideas came back.
This led me to rethink my online presence, and the enormous amount of time one spends (myself included) on social platforms. While I am scrolling, I give my time away (my most precious resource) instead of using it to my benefit. So yes, I have social medias, that I use as ads platforms only (hello Meta) but I deleted the apps from my phone to avoid scrolling mindlessly for hours.
And slowly, the inspiration came back .. in late May of this year I started having ideas again, and enjoying creating once more.
I sincerely hope that we will, as a species, come back to real human relationships, stop the mindless scrolling and let our brains roam free, think, analyse, or simply stay idle (that's when the best ideas are born).
Long live Boredom !
